Press release 28th February 06 All noxious weeds in NSW have been reclassified into 5 classes. This may result in slight changes to the control requirements for noxious weeds in the Northern Inland region.
One of the main changes is that the new Act requires local control authorities to adopt management plans for all their Class 4 weeds and these management plans are the new legal control measures for those weeds.
"In the New England Weeds Authority region, for example, there are 23 Class 4 weeds, which now have individual management plans. These plans are specific to the local area and replace broad State-wide control measures," said Chair of the Northern Inland Weeds Advisory Committee, Cr. Maria Woods.
"Another change is the 'sunset clause' on weed declarations, which means all noxious weeds in NSW are declared for a maximum of 5 years. At the end of that time declarations will be reviewed," advised Cr. Woods.
"We strongly advise property owners to familiarize themselves with the amendments to the Noxious Weeds Act. People can find out more about the new requirements for weed control by contacting their local weeds authority", said Cr. Woods.
